Took my car out for lunch (she's picky )and sitting at the light I notice that I get these occasional surges like it's fighting the brakes and trying to take off. the body noticeably moves etc. This morning she stalled at a stop sign. My increased emission came on as did the active steering. The later went out once I stopped her properly and restarted. But the surging has me worried. Putting her in neutral stops that naturally, but not sure what the issue is. Did a search but found nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

Service time at the dealers.

When did you get new airflow filters? Seems that the engine chokes without reving.
Are your MPG's down?

Or then it's a programming failiure, is your battery OK? A 2005 needs a new one.

Or maybe you have the start-stop systems installed

No start/stop. Just put in a new K/N air filter and removed the charcoal and MPG has been up. Battery was next on the list to be replaced this week. Scheduled for the dealer next Monday.

Definitely bring it in to the dealer. Be sure to get the OEM battery.

Going to try and clean the MAF as well since the K&N is new and the charcoal filter is not there now.

i'd suggest removing the k&n and replacing with stock before you drop the car off.

Mine does this also, but only when it is warming up. Once it is warm it is fine. I suspect it is just something in the programming releated to emission controls and not really a problem, but who knows. Please post details regarding what you find out from the dealer.

On the way home engine died twice. So I cleaned MAF, put in clean gas runs strong but hesitates at lights. RPMs are below 1k at idle. Still have engine light and after a restart I get Active Steering malfunction, but I assume that ius because the system can't reset abruptly after a restart. Scheduled for dealer Monday. Wish me luck.

The verdict is in. The culprit was the thermostat. So they ordered the part and hopefully will have it back in a few days. They also found some other issues but they were covered so they are doing those as well. Thanks to all for your help.
