Okay, I've been on business in Oceanside California for little over a week now. I think there are WAY MORE 5-series in South Florida. Didn't really even see many 5-series on my drive down from LAX. On a funny note, I've seen more Karate studios here (in Oceanside) than 5-series. What I notice in South Florida are more 525' thru 530's, seldom do I see 535s, 545's and 550's; M5's are even more rare. Although there is this nice Red M5 I see time to time in Plantation. Well, the past several days I've mainly seen 535's and maybe one 550 here in Oceanside. I would assume the larger cities like LA and San Diego have more 550's and M5's?

During your travels what do you typically see and where? Do you think the model of 5-series is based on the city? Does BMW market larger cities harder? Should I expect everyone to have M5's in Beverly Hills? I was just bored and writing off the top of my head. Share your thoughts if you like.

FYI - I am born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. On my last visit there a few months ago I mostly saw Domestics, very few BMWs of any king.

One reason why you might see more 525's through 530's is because south Californians are usually more environmentally conscious than anywhere else and feel that the larger engines suck resources out of the earth that could be best used elsewhere. At least this is how I feel.

Oceanside belongs to San Diego county. It's at least 70 miles away from LA.

There are a lot of MB, Lexus and BMW cars in San Diego area as a whole.

Also remember, Oceanside is just outside Camp Pendleton, not many Marines drive 5 series. It's all about location. Go to Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel, Huntington Beach, Irvine, 5 series are a dime a dozen.

Here in the Thousand Oaks/Westlake Village part of Ventura County (just North of LA County) there are MANY E60's! Like pjinca said, (just like real estate) location, location, location!

Well, when I had the chance to get a CPO 550 I jumped at the offer. I came from a leased Infiniti FX35 sport. The 525's and 528's I test drove didn't do it for me; speed, handling, etc. I understand being conscious about the environment, but I craved power and I was able to pay for that decision. I know everyone picks what they drive for multiple reason and there is no right or wrong choice, for me - I wanted power.

Also, location is important. I think cities like Miami, LA and others where it's all about show, people will buy or lease vehicles even when they're out of financial reach. I think Car company's prey on this.

As another poster explained, Oceanside is a blue-collar military town without the high-end demographics who typically buy the higher end BMW. However, if you drove 30 minutes north, you'd seen hundreds of BMWs (especially the 3 series) in Orange County. It's all about the location.

When I think of orange country I think of youth. Younger people, I could be wrong. I this why you think I would see more 3-series?? I tend to think 5-series are for people 32-50 yrs old.

I live in Yorba Linda (north Orange County). On my street there are about 5 other E60's. On my way to work I usually see 2-3 M5's and it seems there is a huge amount of 3 series on the road. That's one of the reasons I got an E60.
