I installed the new wheels and tires today, while washing the tires I noticed this (please see attached photo) should I be concerned? If you stick your nail it will go through but not far, it's more like a crack I think!. Is this going to cause any problems with the tire. I bought these from TireRack. Please let me know what you think and if I should contact Hankook locally for this defect.

That looks really odd ... does it look like a molding defect or where something actually scraped the rubber - maybe during shipping or installation? May not be through to the tire cord and thus may not affect the tire's performance - but it looks bad!

How deep it goes if you stretch the bad part?

edit: Oh, you answered it with your finger nail part... But still, how many millimeters?

If they're brand new tires, I'd be asking TireRack to replace (assuming it is clearly a manufacturing defect, and not the result of an installation issue or a minor scrape as the car was being driven). Irrespective of how deep those gouges are, they're a point of weakness on the tire and if I were you I'd be looking for some assistance from TireRack. I've never had to return anything to them before but their reputation for looking after customers is good so I'm confident you'll get a good outcome here.

I would contact Tirerack. They may want to see the pic. You should get what you pay for IMHO.

Everyone is one the money. There is no excuse for spanking new tires with that kind of defect. Call Tirerack and demand that they take them back (and pay for shipping) and swap them at no cost to you for new, non-defective tires.

I will contact TireRack Monday to discuss the issue. Although I did not drive on these tires for long today, but I'm pretty impressed with the comfort and quietness of the ride. These tires are more quiet than the $2,200 GoodYear Asymmetric F1 that I bought back in April for the 124s.
