I have 2004 530d. Today was vary hot day (I don't know if that is importatnt), I drove the car for 10 min then i push the pedal to the floor and it was accelerating like this:
1 gear 4500, I shifted to second gear,
2 gear 4500 then I shifted to 3rd gear,
3 gear 3500 rpm ant it stop accelerating at 120 km/h pedal was full to the floor but nothing is happening. No power what so ever.
4 gear accelerating until 3000rpm then stop accelerating again.
The car is accelerating normal until that rpm number.
I tried to turn the car off and on than again same thing is happening.
The car has manual gear box and has 120000km. There is no error sign anywhere.
What could that be?
MAF? Particle filter dirty? Dirty fuel?
Please help! I wan't to know what to expect when I take it to the service...

Transmission seems to be in safe mode. Check for possible trans fluid leak, low oil, or anything like this first. I'd also take it to the dealer or a local indy service to check control error messages. This is clearly computer kicking in as a safety precaution. As far as what it could be? I have no idea, possible trans gear went bad, maybe piston problem, who knows. I just hopes its nothing major for you and it all works out.

I doubt its your MAF since that would make a problem from 1st gear and on, not just when you go to 3rd and 4th. Same with fuel. etc.

I'd put my money on a blocked particle filter, mine did the same thing until I took it for a long drive and after 20-30 min's on the motorway at a steady 2000/3000 rev's it cleared itself, have you been doing plenty of short journey's?

Hiya mate, this is exactly what happened to me as what ever I did it would not go past 80mph or 3000rpm in any gear, mine's a manual transmission as well it took me quite some time to find out it was the particulate filter as I was lucky enough to know technician's at an independent BMW specialist here in my home town and they hooked it up to a Autologic diagnostic and showed me the problem,I just hope this sort's it for him.

If it's the DPF, it will be shown at the dealer or similar with the diagnostic tools.

Again, if it is the DPF, the regeneration can be forced on with the right tools/programs. Then, when you leave the garage, the regeneration will start when all the required specs fulfill (engine coolant temp >75°C and the exhaust gas > 240°C). That might solve the problem.

My DPF was so heavily clogged that even the forced regeneration didn't start and I had to take some heavier action as you can read on my thread.
