I have a puncture on my runflats. My husband suggested we change the front 2 tyres to normal tyres as he thinks the runflats are too noisy.

Anyways I've been calling around for quotes and got told that I am only allowed to put runflats on runflat rims. I've called BMW to confirm and they said that it is correct, because my rims are for runflats I can't put normal tyres on them and if I want normal tyres I need to get new rims??

Is this correct??? My husband reckons he's seen people talk about replacing their runflats with normals tyres without replacing their rims.

If anyone has anymore info that would be great. Thanks

Your rims have nothing to due with the RFT's. No idea why anyone would tell you something so stupid.

If your replacing the front just replace all four and save yourself some headaches you may encounter.

lol wow bmw dealers are the new best buy when it comes to knowledge.

You can put any tire brand on your wheels. Just make sure they fit and are the type of tire you need for your location.

bmw wheels are made special for run flats but nornal tires will fit just fine on them too

other brand normal wheels may not be capable of running run flats because they were not originally made with run flats in mind

I met an incredibly knowledgable stereo guy at best buy a few weeks ago. you cant ask the people that work the floor. computer questions, ask geek squad, car audio, ask the installers, not the butt hole selling garmins

Actually your original rims are designed specifically to be used with RFTs ... but may also be fitted with conventional tires. I do not recommend mixing RFTs and non-RFTs. The differences in handling characteristics may create an unsafe condition.

I'd go one step further and not recommend mixing different brand/model tires on the same vehicle. If you do, your car may handle fine under "ordinary" driving ... but, if an extraordinary situation occurs you may be unpleasantly surprised at how your car behaves.

If you think it's odd, wear a dress shoe on one foot and a sneaker on the other ... you'll be able to walk around just fine, but running a marathon or a sprint may leave your body feeling pretty odd.

I've just discovered that one of my rear wheels (with RFTs) has cracks at 2 places. Does anyone know if the rims are more prone to damages due to the stiffer sidewalls on the RFT or is it the other way around? I'm considering switching to the nonRFTs if it helps to extend of the life of my rims...and of course, for more comfort too
