I want to try any change my own oil for the first time. 2 questions I have are:

1. How much oil do I put in? Is a 05' 525i. I cant find specs anywhere. Note: That its diffrent size engine than the 06' and later 525i

2. I see that BMW put "castrol" of the oil plug but which type of castrol oil do I use?

Thanks Guys

6.5 liters ~ 6.9 quarts. It's on page 198 of the Owners Manual

5w30 or 5w40 - any SAE certified brand. It's on page 178 of the owners manual. Castrol paid a premium to be the 'BMW' recommended oil. I use Mobil 1 when the gallon jugs go on sale...

the only approved Mobil1 is the 0w40 weight. The Castrol Syntec European 0w30 is also approved. but you can check at the dealer, I've gotten the BMW Oil for less than the Mobil or Castrol on occasion.
