What experience do you all have with trying to drive an '06 525i (not xi) on sleet. We're expecting sleet over the weekend. Or would I probably be safer in my wife's front wheel drive Corrola?

Thanks

Depends if you have winter tyres.
If so you should get by with care.

Problem with us in the UK is that we use summer tyres all year and on the one day we get 0.5 inch of snow the country grinds to a halt!

I second! 525xi with Nokian winter tires, and you hardly notice there is winter...

I have to agree that. I test drove 525Xi last weekend and have to say that I was amazed!

I'm in Little Rock, and mine's staying in the garage until the ice is gone. Thank God I bought a gallon of bourbon yesterday.

Bulls**t!

I have been driveing BMW's in snowy and icy conditions for more than 3 decades.

These new BMW's with DSC are great but of course one should use the best winter
tires money can buy.

Ric -

No one uses "winter tires" in Arkansas, United States of America. That's why we don't drive our BMWs in the snow here, especially a car like the 545, with sport package. I'm sure if I had a winter tire set-up with some underpowered engine, spikes and chains, I'd be leaning against a bar right now at some semi-hip nightclub (at least for Arkansas), in our ice storm, trying to get some trim. But we don't do that here.

That being said, I'm absolutely sure you could drive the living shit out of whatever European configuration of BMW you're currently tooling around in Finland or wherever the heck you live, just having one hell of a time. However, from a "relevance" perspective, no one realistically needs to be driving around on ice, in Arkansas, with a standard American BMW factory set-up car, non-Xi, unaltered. We don't tell you folks how to run a bobsled, after all.
