Am I the only one that is going to order a non-Sport 550i? Every 08 550i I see has the Sport on it, I may end up with a unique car

I will probably order a non sport 550I also.I just can't see paying for features and options I don't want.I would like to get the new step sport trans but it is not available without the sport package.I like my cars clean and mean. Also it is lighter without the sport package.

Hmm... if only there was a BMW to suit your needs - oh yeah, get a 535i, it is lighter, almost as fast and you don't need the aero package.

According to Road and Track:
After driving a 535i back-to-back against the 360-bhp (but 242-lb.-heavier) V-8-powered 550i, it becomes clear that the more agile, more willing 535i (which now uses the larger 13.7-in. front disc brakes and 13.6-in. rears from the 550i) is the 5 Series of choice for back-road action, especially at any kind of elevation (M5 notwithstanding).

I've driven the non-sport 550i at a local dealer back to back with Sport 550i and Sport 535i. My impression with regard to 535i was, yeap, OK car, didn't thrill me at all, and every soccer mom on my block will have one soon. Stopped considering the 535i altogether after test drive.

550i Sport felt like a different car, was very impressed with it. Then I drove the 'base' 550i with 17in wheels and non-sport suspension. Felt every bit as strong and agile as it's Sport counterpart, with less harshness on rough roads (I made sure I drove over some imperfections, which is easy, I'm in New York, where 'imperfections' are the norm  )

So, for 4800 less the car made a lot of sense, I'm about to pull the trigger on Monaco Blue with Natural and Bamboo.

AHH Sport mode on the 550i is just a blast. It is all I drive my car in.

No sport mode for me - manual transmission BMW only, as God intended it

I drove a 2007 550I with sport and tried to buy it. Glad the dealer was an ass.

I went elsewhere and ordered a 2008 550I equipped as I wanted without the sport package. It rides much better than the sport in my opinion. I was coming off an Infiniti G35 Coupe and wanted less of the sport suspension ride, but more of the git up and go.

The 550I non-sport fits that bill in every way!

Yeah, and the non-sport comes with all season tires, which is important to me in New York, as I don't have to buy a winter set of tires if I want to drive the car in crappy weather months, which is pretty much half the year here, November through April. As nice as the Sport package looks, I can not imagine it being very practical on real-world roads. Every time I think 'low-profile-19-inch' wheels/tires combo, I cringe, as images of pot-hole-ridden, cracked-surface, debris-layin' Grand Central Pkway and/or BQE appear before me....

I've seen a few non-sport 545's and 550's in my area, but they are indeed the rarest of the E60's.
Most ppl who want the extra power of the V8 also want the better handling of the sport pack.

When I was first considering getting an E60, I was actually thinking of a non-Sport 545, but that didn't happen because I had to have SMG. So I had to get the sport pack. I guess I had envisioned the car being a fast comfy cruiser. I'm glad I got the sport pack though. Its actually not sporty enough for me anymore lol.
