My Ride: 2004 545i Sport: Titanium Gray on Gray Dakota with Black Poplar Trim, SMG Transmission, Active Steering, Logic 7, Navigation
Default

I just bought a 2004 545i. Rear tires need to be replaced - it currently has Dunlop run-flats. After reviewing the posts on this forum, I think I'd like to try Michelin Pilot PS2's. Any issue with the tire pressure monitoring system?

The front tires are Dunlops also, but have plenty of tread. Any thoughts on holding on to them for a while with the PS2's on the rear?

Thanks for all replies!

You should replace all the tires at the same time. Your rear tires will always wear out first. There is no issue with the TPM. Just go to tirerack.com.

Replacing all 4 is definitely preferrable. But I am not aware of any technical issues in running RF and non-RF mixed (as long as you keep the tires consistent on each 'axle') and in back).

You can keep the front wheels . But with PS2 you would brake better!

Would BMW worry about you taking the run flats off and putting normal tyres on? Would or could it affect your warranty?

After you installed the new tires. Go to iDrive and reset the tire pressure setting.

Why would anyone buy a premium car and then put on cheap low budget tires? Tires do matter when it comes to handling and braking distance.

Your profile does not show where you are, but if you are in the U.S., you should check out COSTCO.

http://www.costco.com/Tires/Landing.aspx?c...=BC&topnav=

I had my runflats replaced there with PS2's and have had no problems. They have the equipment needed to do the job and their price was the best. Keep in mind that the price they quote you online is the total final price and it includes mounting, balancing, and road hazard insurance. I love the TireRack website, but they do not have the lowest final price in my experience. Good luck.
