Noise/whining from the rear
Hello friends,
Since some time , my 2008 530i BMW E60 has a noise from the rear ,when driving at higher speed (110/120 km/h), it's more like a hurl it's not high pitch , more on lower frequencies. I tried to put it neutral and it doesn't go away, it's not amplified by pushing the gas pedal or by accelerating , it is just constant until you break up to 50-60km/h when it goes off.
With these symptoms, i believe is not a diff problem, as the car had extended warranty up to 100000km with BMW and now it is 116000km so 72000 miles. Last year when i had it with the SA, they checked and found only the lower arms on the front with some issues, but not critical, everything else was fine. Doesn't sound like a gone bearing, the noise somehow is "stereo" it's not more on one side and less on the other.
One thing i haven't tested: switching the wheels from rear to front, as the rear tyres are kind of wasted (Nitto Invo's, 2015 DOT), profile is very low.
Appreciate your thoughts, thanks !

Could be tire wear or bad tires creating the noise. Best is to switch the rear tires with another set and see if it goes away.
Another thing you can try is put the car on a hoist or 4 jack stands and accelerate at the same speed, if there isn't any noise, chances are it is tires or bearing (because no load on the tires right now).
If there is a noise, might be drive line issue.

+1 at top
if its a whining noise then my money is on the wheel hub (bearings going bad) needing to be replaced. simple to do if you have the correct tools.

I'll try with the tyres first anyway i need to change them. The noise is there even when i slow down a bit hard from to say 100km/h to 60km/h it's like slowing down a tank on asphalt. then at lower speeds nothing is whining at all. i'll bring an update once i do something.
Thanks
