Hi Guys,

Recently i was have a loud noise while steering slowly in parking lot and i change the GUIDE SUPPORT (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=31&fg=10&hl=1) and then the big noise disappear and i can still hear a noise while turning the steering slowly , but the noise cannot be hear when the engine is cold, only when engine got the normal tempaerature .

Has anyone got this problem before?

I had somewhat of the same problem. A slight squeeling noise when turning the steering wheel (sounded like it was in the column). Brought it to the dealer for a look. Apparently, there's a TSB about this problem. Appears that some of the seals leak. They flushed the power steering system and added some additive to the fluid, per the TSB. No more noise (for now).

I had the problem when my engine was cold. When I put resistance on the steering wheel you can hear a re-verb resonance sound and you can feel it in the steering wheel as well. Once I let off the steering wheel the sound would get softer and partially go away.

The sound would go away when the car warms up. At a meet I was at this past weekend, I addressed my issue and found that the cause was my steering fluid was very low. We had it topped off and the sound went away.

i dont see how the guide support can cause steering noise(whine). it'd be more like a clunk??

but if you're getting a whining noise, i'd recommend flushing the steering fluid and replace only with pentosin chf 11s.
if that dont work, maybe the power steering pump is just worn out.

Try checking the fluid level first. The level should be between the two line indicators. Much like an oil dipstick.

If it is low, top it off before you try the flush. It may be a simple fix.

I had this and under warranty BMW 'fixed' this. Apparently they had to add some additive in the steering wheel fluid. That was a couple of years ago. It seems to have returned again now and I need them to check this again at my service in Jan.
