Hi Folks,
Its been a while e60 535d has just done 204,000 miles! Just had new front shocks put on and it needs a little weld to the exhaust thought that wasnt too bad until tonight.
Switched vehicle off took keys out and there is a noise coming from under the hood. Its a kind of ticking hissing noise and its pretty loud. Never heard it before. My best guess is its just under the engine cover at the front right hand side. The car is running great no overheating. My worry is if something is still running the battery will go down overnight. I cannot think of anything other than something electrical. I allowed the car to cool and it goes away and then the noise comes back! And thats without starting it.
Good to be back on the forum. Like the changes. How longs it been like this?
Hope you are all well.

My car makes sounds also and I think it's ok.
Do you have the comfort access? If you do, then the car may just "wake up" when you get close to it....
However, I wouldn't be concerned about the sounds.

I always had that ticking and clicking noise from under the hood on all my BMW's when I stop. I like the noise actually, engine cooling down etc. Was really loud on my old 328i
I think what causes this is the engine exhaust manifold and sometimes the heater fan, which runs for a while when car is switched off. Also, I understand the car goes through a shut-down cycle when switched-off, where all the vents close, thermostats close etc and they can make lots of noise.

Hi Folks,
Got to the bottom of my problem. It was a faulty throttle motor. This sits just in front of the egr. Was running when car was switched off. Took it off and cleaned it, no good. Motor inside was faulty. Couldnt get one on ebay. BMW wanted £252. Got oem one on internet for £200. Noise gone.
Thanks for all the replies.
