One of the first things I noticed on my 535xi, is that there was no engine temp gauge. I do a lot of mountain driving and always pay close attention to engine temp on all my vehicles, especially on 11,000 ft passes .

Anyone know why BMW feels a gauge is not needed?
Does anyone ever have a problem with overheating?

Thanks!

I never seen a e60 overheat so it should be ok.
you can always put a 3rd party temperature gauge in.

idrive will warn you if temps are higher than normal and will lower your redline automatically so you cant drive it hard.

A couple 535i's have over heated in the deserts of Nevada during a high speed run to -from Cali.. The owners don't post here but are on other forums (bimmerfest)....

Needless to say it was like 105+ deg air temp and they had been running the cars with out a break at "near" triple digit speeds for an extended time period. There are a few reports of the same situation with N54 powered E8x's and E9x's on E90 post.com and 1addicts.com , same for track work when very hot out....

You can monitor the engine coolant temp in the "hidden menu".

edit: The temps are in the folder 7.
