That is exactly what Iceman is saying.? According to Iceman (who has almost always been right) you can only pay MP3s if you have Radio Pro and cannot play them if you have Radio Business.? In the US, you ONLY get Radio Pro if you get Nav (otherwise you get Radio Business -- even with L7 -- and hence cannot play MP3s).? However, it now transpires that if we have Sirius, we are getting Radio Pro, even if we don't have Nav which is allowing us to play MP3s.
But ICEMAN also seems confused that MP3s are not currently supposed to work in the US. EXACTLY! |

I vividly recall an earlier thread where the Iceman himself described how non-Navigation cars would be getting mp3 soon through the new software and that Nav equipped cars would get in the Sept timeframe. Now, I thought he meant slobs like me in the US without Nav. Are we now saying that he only really meant non-Nav cars in Europe that have Radio Pro and that non-Nav cars in the US we're not supposed to be able to get mp3 at all? |

Yep, saw that, but what's the explanation for UUronL's stereo playing mp3 without Navigation?? Sounds like nobody has one, so maybe we don't know the whole story on what is required for mp3...? ? Is it Sirius?? Is there something different in the 2006's (U.S. designation!)?? If it is Sirius, does it have to be factory installed Sirius or will it work for those of us who sat prep and now have Sirius but it was installed at the dealer?
Officially you need radio pro. Maybe you get radio pro when Sirius is factory installed... I don't know! So the only OFFICIAL statement on MP3 is: RADIO PRO is REQUIRED! The fact that somebody in the US is having MP3 right now is confusing. But it's definately not the L7, since there are others that have L7 without nav and don't get MP3 after CIP 16.2 was installed. So it looks as it has something to do with Sirius. |
As I've said before, I get RDS on all the stations that broadcast it in "All Stations" view. I'm under the impression that Business Radios don't do that.
Also, I have WB or "Weather Band". Is this a useful clue as to which radio I might have? Regardless, I think BMW promised MP3 support for the US 2006 MY. They delivered. :) |
This is getting a little confusing...
I have L7, Sirius and Nav. I've no clue what software version I have but I'm pretty certain it's not 16.2. Anyone have a clue what this configuration might yield? |
