I have a 2006 US Spec 530i without NAV, but with the Logic 7 premium audio (single slot radio). FWIW, I have weatherband and Sirius as well. My stereo plays MP3s in the single dash CD slot. However, it will not play these same CDs in the changer - not allowing me to select any CDs from the changer - as if they do not exist. Is this expected behavior, and do we anticipate gaining the capability of playing MP3 CDs in the changer at some point in the future?

Right now, your car is working as expected. I don't know it they'll ever make MP3 discs play in the changer. The fix might be software related but I think it's more likely hardware related which means it'll never happen...

Yeah, wasn't sure since MP3 capable changers have been in the aftermarket channels for going on 4 years now... Let's hope. :)

But go for the Ipod, I have archos but as www.dension.com will have cool-ICELINK for I pod I will go for it than you can use all functions from the steering wheel as well.

How have you got a 2006 spec car?

Without dredging up this discussion (argument) again, the US spec 530i and 525i cars currently carry an official model year designation of 2006. These cars have the new R6 3.0L making 255hp engine and the detuned 3.0L making 225hp respectively.

As for an external MP3 player - ah, no. I've been monkeying with that stuff for the better part of 7 or 8 years. No no no. If the changer turns out to be a disappointment, I'll simply use the in-dash for MP3 and make do with normal CDs in the changer before I hack up the audio system.

Ok, so this guy is living proof that you CAN have MP3 capability and NOT have Navigation. It's looking like to me that Logic 7 is getting the MP3 capability as well. Am I missing something here?

It is. The issue here in the states has always been nav vs. non-nav cars. Because of software/hardware differences, the non-nav cars are getting mp3 first. Software allowing nav equipped cars is due in Sept sometime (in the U.S.). That's the way I've always understood it. And I think you need the Logic 7 to get the mp3 capability here in the states. Those with the standard stereo (U.S. spec) can't get it.

It's definately not the L7 what gives him MP3 support. It must be the Sirius.
Strange...
It is not supposed to work yet...

Does the L7 use a different 'head unit' then the Standard audio system in the USA? I think it must, since the L7 amp drives all the speakers while in my car I only have an external amp for the subs under the seat while everything else is powered by my standard sound system 'head unit' (MASK). Can anyone else confirm MP3 availabilty on L7 or standard audio in the USA?
