No ignition no dash no nothing

Hi
Well I got in my 2004 e60 this morning after a heavy rain all night and the car was dead.

I checked the battery but it was fully charged

I put jumper leads to the front to check and still nothing

I checked all the fuses and all are fine

I don't have power to check fault codes

No lights dash nothing

Any suggestions?

Hey my friend. It's been a while.

Check your car for water. First unplug your battery. Look in the trunk, feel under you passenger seat for water. Also look under the hood. There is a compartment at the passenger firewall that has the ECU and more fuses. Open it up to see if there is any water damage also check the fuses in there. That's the main power so you may find your issue.

Great to see your mail
I hope life is great with you and your family and your not working to hard

So let me go into a little more detail about the car and what I've done so far

In the last three months I've driven the car about 100 klms only and it's been sitting outside because the wife got a new car so my bmw was put down in the pecking order

About a week ago I drove it to the shop and the battery was low but it started just and I left it running while I was in the shop ( no one will touch it in japan)

Over the last three days it's been raining pretty heavy

Two days ago I got in the car and there was nothing
No dash lights, headlights clicking of the starter motor interior lights nothing

So I put on the battery charger for the day and waited till it was fully charged

So I jumped back in the car and still nothing

I checked every fuse and all were okay in the boot and glove box

I had power to the main power connector under the bonnet

Today after reading your post I checked under the bonnet and under the air filter where the ecu is situated in a sealed box

It wasn't wet and it only had a 10amp fuse that was also okay
There was no water in the wheel well but a little on the bottom of the battery

Is there fuses in another place

It feels like either a fuse or relay which is not switching the power to the ecu and ignition switch

This one has got me stumped at the moment

There is more fuses under the bonnet where you going the 10amp one at. They should be clustered together in a black rectangular shape plastic case. They are for the ECU. I will open mine up and see if I can get a pic for you

Also I'm thinking that water under the battery could have something to do with it. Do you know where it came in from. Could of shorted something. I know back in 08 my car got water in the trunk and ran down the back of the tail light and shorted it out. I had to get a new tail light cluster.

In your first mail you spoke about fuses and the ecu
Was that I side the car or under the bonnet and splash covers in the big seal plastic box?

Oh and of course thanks for everything

seanjordan20 05-11-2020 08:48 PM

Yes in the big seal plastic box where you were looking under the air filter. There should be more fuses and relays in that box

E60Japanese 05-11-2020 08:55 PM

Thanks
So only one fuse there a 10amp which was okay

I'm looking for another black rectangular box under the bonnet but can't find one yet Lololol

It should be in the ECU box you looked at previously. It has the 10 amp fuse but also in a slot there should be cables going to relays and a small 2" plastic box with multiple fuses in it

Oh okay I didn't see but I'll go and have another look!!!
