Okay, before anyone gets the wrong idea, I've owned BMW's since 1989 and don't see me buying anything else but BMW's in the future.

I do, however, have respect for some of the cars that other German manufacturers are building -- especially MB. Also, I'm a car nut and a racing nut so here's a few articles about what I'll be doing for two days in late July at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's F1 road course:

AMG Challenge article one.

AMG Challenge article two.

I'm attending both the regular and graduate programs over a two-day period. It should be awesome! Yeeeeee Haaaaw!!

Sounds like a great experience, Rudy, and I'll bet you are going to have a ball. Can't blame you for checking out the oval track. We can understand the routine for maxing out the dynamics, but to experience it and strive for perfection is one most of us will never have an opportunity to try. Our Lone Star chapter holds events at the Texas Speedway and there are instruction opportunities, but I never wanted to abuse my car to that extent. This sounds like a great opportunity.

Have you ever tried any of the events offered on the BMW site at:

Thanks guys.

JDN, yes, I've done some BMW events and plan to do as many more as possible. I've also done Skip Barber school back when they used E30 M3's as classroom cars (back when my E30 M3 was new.) In addition to the BMW stuff, I also get to do MB "client on-track" event each year here at a local racetrack.

Also, the AMG event at Indy is on the F1 course so as far as I know, it won't be the entire oval, just the front straight and some of turns four and one.

Yessiree, it will be a fun couple of days for sure. Too bad I won't be able to take my E60 out on the track!

I will be in Munich for a BMW driver training July 11th. It'll be my second and I'm looking forward to do many more of them. BMW is also offering track days and even a special 10 day drivers training in Finland (offcourse in winter time). I've just heard from somebody who was on track in Maranello with BMW, that sound like a hell of an experience an fun, fun, fun...
Enjoy it Rudy !

Here you go:

BMW Fahrertraining (German)

BMW Driver's Training (English)

Stufentrainings-Programm (De)

Graded Training Program (Eng)

Those session are held on "their" BMW's, you are not ruining your car and they are organized by BMW M. Their instructors are EXTREMELY experienced.

INSTRUCTORS:
From the very start, BMW Driver Training has been noted for the high standards that our team-members are expected to maintain. Our instructors are experts in their disciplines, including test drivers, safety specialists, leading motor sport personalities and engineers from technical and development departments. To be a BMW Driver Training instructor is more than a job, it is a calling. The team's dedication to mastery of advanced technologies and systems leads its members to undergo extensive initial and advanced training to enhance their own driving skills, knowledge of the physical laws that govern road-vehicle movement and teaching capabilities. When you learn theory or practice from these people, you're getting it from the true source.

VEHICLES:
Our driver and rider training comes with a BMW guarantee of stimulating excitement and encounter with something new. There's good reason for this: your own desire to enhance your driving safety and exploit the full dynamic and performance potential of your own talent and what the car or motorcycle has to offer. Who can satisfy this wish better than the manufacturer? BMW always puts safety first: its products comply with the most stringent international safety standards. For each training session we provide models from the same series and with the same power output, so that you have a sound basis for assessing your own performance. Whether you prefer a manual-shift gearbox, an automatic transmission or BMW's SMG system - you can always concentrate fully on what matters: polishing up your own skills.

LOCATIONS:
One of the most important factors influencing our events is the ground beneath the wheels - the training site, the road system or the racing circuit. Since your safety is the governing factor for us, we choose these areas with the greatest of care. You will find that they are generous in size, with plenty of space at the sides in case vehicles leave the road, with realistic road markings and all the know-how that the leading racing circuits can provide - without any opposing traffic flows, and conveniently situated not too far from where you live. If the weather isn't as bad as we want it to be on a particular day, we help things along by watering the track. For special needs such as Winter Training, we take ourselves off to a part of the world where conditions are ideal - for example S?lden, Lapland or even Canada. And most important too: we allow you to practice until you have mastered every situation we set up for you. When you are driving on the public roads, you have no opportunity to practice when a situation arises. Master it in training - and you'll be glad when the unexpected does occur.
