No heat from centre vents
Hi guys,
Could you offer some advise? I can't get any heat from my 4 main vents and my rear passenger vents, it is permanently stuck on cold air. There is nothing wrong with the fan motor, it's blows fine. I can get full controllable cold / hot air from the foot and windscreen vents but nothing from my centre and rear vents.
Clearly, something like an air flow direction flap is jammed or a link arm has detached but where do I start to access it? I've taken the centre dash apart but that only gives me access to blower motor and that was a pain the A#%^. How do I get access the actual moving parts / flaps / motors in the air flow channels.
I've looked on the internet but I can't find much on it, do I need to take the top half of the dashboard off? Or Do I need to go in via the engine bay?

Thanks in advance.
PS not sure why my posts read 0, this really isn't my first post.

May sound like a dumb suggestion but you have checked your iDrive settings right? And you used to get warm air from those vents before?

Yeah, it's the first thing I checked along with fuses. I don't know how I've done it but I disconnected everything then checked the stepper motors and blower. Reconnected it all and tested it again and it works fine now. It's must of been a loose connection some where.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi,
I have same problem of yours.
No heat blowing from vents in mid console. But cold air coming out with no problem.
Could you tell in more detail what you did to make it work somehow.
Thank you..

I found an excellent DIY tutorial on how to strip the front dashboard down to access the blower and stepper motors on a website. It actually had about 35 E60 ( all bmws actual) common fault fixes, really really helpful. I did put up the website but it was taken down.
I just followed that tutorial, stripped the dash, disconnected everything to do with the heating system made sure the blower had no obvious faults, made sure stepper motors were ok. I carefully put it back together and tested it and it worked.
You need to read that tutorial and it explains everything but you can't advertise it on here. I'll have to PM it to you.

Can I please have an PM too? My E60 is on the other extreme. I only get hot air out of the footwell, defrost and rear vent no matter what degree I set. Cool air (not cold) comes out of center vent only.
I tried replace the hot water valve but no help so I suspect the issues is from the step motor or the IKHA itself. Running diagnosis and it throws codes
009C79 - IHKA Water valve, Left
009C7A - IHKA Water valve, Right
009C54 - IHKA: AUC sensor
