Never had my car beep when locking. The i-drive menu only gives an option for visual which is a flash of the indicators (turn signals), never seen an option for a beep.

Rob - I had the same situation that you experienced. Upgraded to 24.01 and it didn't work. Installed 24.00 and eyebrows work. My car beeps and lights blink to confirm open and close. This service was performed in California. So that takes out the question regarding Europe versus US.
