No audio and SOS call system failure-dscf3660.jpgThis wee box controls all these things. Check it for corossion. When mine packed up I lost the very same items.

Located in the boot under the spare wheel. VERY stupid palce to put it due to damp and possible water ingress.

I want to thank Paulmc... I was having all the same problems as Techno79 and after reading this, and then locating the gray box under the spare tire... I took it out started the car without it and put it back in (of course tapping it a few times) lol .. and starting the car again and everything worked. So going to keep my eyes on it for a while and see if it does it again!

I had a MOST bus error on my car, and after resetting same issue came back with battery drain - ended up being a bad CCC unit.

1. No audio from FM, DAB, USB key, Sat Nav, Parking sensors.
2. Radio interface works and allows selection of the radio stations but no audio is present.
3. Pressing the CD button on the iDrive controller does not do anything.
4. Pressing the Tel button on the iDrive brings up a message to say that no phone has been installed (can't remember the exact words of this message).
5. Navigating somewhere does not bring up the directions on the HUD (HUD still shows other messages and info i.e. the SOS error, current speed and cruise control settings).

I thought it was a glitch so I left the car on the drive until the next day as I didn't need to use the car. However even after 10 hours later, the car still has the same issue. I've read the postings to do with SOS Call System Failure but none of them seemed to indicate they were suffering all the other symptoms that I'm showing. I'm going to take it to the garage this week but just wondering if anyone else had this exact problem which would help me get some more background info.

TIA
Just replace the MPM in the spare wheel well and all will be fine again

My 2006 550i is in the shop right now for this same problem. Started to occur immediately after an I-Drive software update, and am being told that a reprogramming should fix this. We shall see...

MPM = Micro Power Module... manages power distribution to devices that may cause battery drain.

Here is a document I had downloaded from one of the posts....

Default SOS and PCD failure

Check the boot compartment under the spare wheel in the trunk for water ingress. I have the same problem and after ordering the computer and other electronics, the dealership found the water in the trunk, where all the electronics modules are located. Looks like this is a bad design decision and it happens very often after a big storm or if snow gets into the trunk, melts and licks into the boot. The problem is, they say it is not covered by the warranty. Have anyone seen a warning sign anywhere in the manual or in the car calling attention to this?
