I just came back from a casual evening held be my BMW dealer. Drink, food and ice hockey...very nice. But, what more important, the dealer told me that in LCI you have a possibility to see night vision IR-picture from HUD. This was new for me, never heard about this. Does anyone have confirmation available? Sounds like a good idea, but I read earlier that BMW abandoned night vision HUD-installation in early phase in order to avoid confusion between the IR image and actual sight. Have the engineers changed their minds or am I misinformed?

Is that a question or a statement?

This would be great, but I have not heard or read anywhere of it.

Technically that would be pretty compliced to manage.
The hud now only gives digitized led measures on the front window.
In the future I'm sure that's possible, though.

In my understanding the Night Vision sight is on the iDrive screen.

Although I understand the BMW engineers' concerns about displaying night vision on the windshield, I think it would less dangerous than constantly glancing down at the iDrive screen. One of the least understood aspect of HUD is the safety feature of being able to keep your eyes on the road. As it's currently engineered, I think night vision actually reduces rather than enhances safety.

I don't know whether the LCI will have Night Vision on the HUD or not but it should be. I totally agree that having Night Vision on the I-Drive screen is pretty unsafe. The only way it is helpful is to keep looking at it to see if it is picking up anything, which results in your taking your eyes off the road. My experience is that it is primarily useful on dark, relatively untraveled roads and taking your eyes off the road to check the Night Vision screen on those types or roads is particularly unsafe.
