Newbie question: iDrive software and Sat Nav

My Ride: Alpine White F11 520D SE 2013
Hi all,
I am located in London, UK, and recently purchased a 2004 530i.
It has Sat Nav but only the arrow type not the map type. Can it be upgraded to the Map type, would this involve simply buying a new DVD or a new system?
Also, is it possible to upgrade the iDrive software? I am sure there must have been a new version out in the last 3 years.
