Folks,

Newbie to the forum..sorry for all the questions but would appreciate any advice. I'm an avid 5 series enthusiast (this will be my fourth one) looking to order a new E60..would appreciate any comments and help:
1) Had a demo drive so far on 525I and 530D, always driven a manual and still prefer it but can't seem to find a manual equipped 530D. Anyone on the forum own a 530D with manual, I realise the rev range challenges but is this a really bad configuration and one to stay clear of?
2) I keep reading (at least in the UK motor press) how the RFTs affect the ride but really how "challenging" does the E60 look with 16 inch wheels..16 inch equipped E60s seem rare and I've actually never seen one...anyone got pics so I can make my own mind up?
3) I'm tempted to go with the Logic7..worth the money over the stock system which does seem better than my last two E39's?

I can't comment on the Diesel, since I have the 545iA.

But I do have Logic 7 and have to say it is the best sound system I have ever had in a car!
It rocks...

It is definately worth the money !

Don't get the 16", they look like crap! I've seen a couple of E60's so far equipped with them and they really make the car look bad, 17" is the minimum you should get on this car. Although they still look small, they don't look bad at all, if possible get some 18"/19" ofcourse.

I'll third the opinion of the Logic 7. I think it's a must have.

From what I've read, not too many people are pleased with the standard sound system.

MTRHEAD,
I regret not getting the Logic 7 sound system. The standard system on my 545i sounds OK at best. Honestly, I was trying to save a few nickles, BIG mistake!! Like stalling my engine in the middle of a double round-about.

Contrary view - Yes the L7 sound is fantastic but the ?500 less hi-fi speaker/amp upgrade in the uk is also great, way better than standard sound.

save the dosh and use it to upgrade bus nav to pro nav which is more of a "must" imho.

man.box.......in uk, its going to be worth ?1500 less at resale and the 530d especially suits the 6 speed auto.

16" wheels...nay, nay and thrice nay, ugly as sin and balloon tyres kill the handling.

RFT...ride is superb on my 17's..remember, the uk roads are pish and going to 19s will loosen your teeth. go 17 or 18 as a factory option

oh, forgot to say, WELCOME !

WELCOME !

I have a 530d (feb 04 build) with 18" and standard sound.
Only one word: fantastic driving

In my opinion 17" or better 18" ,active steering, pro nav are a MUST.

Normally, in Italy, 530d will be worth of more than half the value you pay for new after 3 years with 60-70.000 km.

Welcome MTRHEAD

I can agree with everybody on 16". The 18" RFT look so much better and handle ok. They are a fair bit noisier than the 16"s though.

It's like with women. The one with the trainers will be walking around in comfort but you'll date the one in the stilettos

As for the Logic7, it sounds great but I'm not so sure if it's worth the money from one option down.

Get the active steering and the Dynamic Drive, even if it means you'll have to get music from a walkman!

Hi MTRHEAD
just a few more thoughts
(i) Get some kind of upgraded sound - std kit is very poor
(ii) New price - should be less 6% in the UK . Please don't let those miserable dealers rip you off!
(iii) You must get auto with the diesel. Get a loaner for an afternoon of auto and manual - then decide.
If the dealer won't do this then buy elsewhere.......
(iv) Car looks best with 124 style wheels !
(v) See forums regarding std air con
(vi) Car and shape is extremely colour sensitive - so choose very very carefully all trim combinations.
(vii) Nav is expensive if it's your own money you are spending!
(viii) If you have a baby or children then do buy the BMW rear and side window blinds.... well worth the money

Regards!
