I just changed mine (2004 530i)on Sunday. It was harder to figure out how to reset the computer than to change the oil. There are some how to videos on youtube in case you can't figure it out.
Dont lose the washer on the drain plug unless your filter came with a new one. 7q fills up a waste bucket fast.
I had to use some channel locks wrapped in a t shirt to get the filter off without damaging it.

You could use a couple 2 x 4s to hold the car up too
