Well its official today, my SA called this morning to tell me I am getting a new transmission installed. This was the 3rd time in two months I had my car in with abnormal transmission behavior. The first time it was in they couldn't find a problem and did nothing. The second time they performed a software update, that didn't solve the problem. Now third time is the charm, a new transmission is being installed next Monday. At constant speeds it would hunt for gears, rpm needle would jump, you actually could feel the car accelerating and decelerating. Every time I had it in to check the transmission, the loaner they provided would drive 100 times better than my E60, I knew something was wrong. My E60 experience has been rough, I am really think twice about buying another Bimmer, even though I love them. I was looking forward to maybe jumping into a 335i coupe or 135i at the end of next year, now I am not too sure.

No doubt, this would be a good argument to learn how to drive manual!

My Ride: 2008 535xi / Platinum Grey / Black leather / Step Auto / Sport / Premium / Cold weather / 18" wheels / Logic 7 / Comfort / ipod / Navigation / Fold Down Rear Seats / Rear Airbags / Sirius SAT / Spoiler / Extended Clear bra / Bluetooth. (Previously owned a 2002 sport 525I Loaded).
On order: 535xi Platnium Grey with Black interior, Step Auto, Sports package, Premium package, Cold weather package, 18" wheels, Logic 7, Comfort access, ipod adapt, Navigation, Sat radio, Rear spoiler, Extended Clear coat bra.
Good luck, I hope it all works out. The best thing about this is that if your warranty is running out, the 4 year or 50,000 mile, at least your new transmission is covered for a longer period of time. A very expensive part indeed......

The funny thing is I probably will never know exactly what was wrong with the tranny. My SA just said they don't open up the transmissions, they just replace them if something is wrong.

Yep that would be great, but I already have both extended warranties.

It will cost them more in manpower to find what is wrong and fix.
sorry I forgot that you put the miles on the title.
