thanks Theo, I must have missed this one, but it seems like the probem. However, there are not any sign of the thermostat, do I need to change whole heat exchanger?

I changed my EGR thermostat as i found the temps to cold. On a colder day it stayed in the 70's and took a long time to get there.

After changing it seems to warm up faster, but just did one test drive sofar and it was abit warmer that day.

Only it didn't reach 90°C which i was hoping it would, but stayed around 80°C . It looks like the main thermostat is opening at 80°C.
Not sure if this is an issue, the main reason i did the change was the time needed for the engine to warmup as that will reduce the life time of the engine.

What do you guys think do I need to change the main thermostat ?
My borthers new Mondeo also run's at 80°C so it seems not uncommon for an engine to run at 80°C.

I don't have the flaps behind the front grils, anyone know if you can retrofit them ? I find them a great feature but sadly mine doesn't have it.

Definitely time to change main thermostat.

Front grills probably can be retrofitted. BTW, the LCI ones were active flaps (electric) [part of the EfficientDynamics program), and opened up only once the engine was up to operating temperature. I don't think they'd make much difference though.

OK, Noobie question here...

How are you guys reading your engine temps? I'm hearing something about a "hidden menu", but can't find anything on how to access this.

BTW.. I have a 2007 525xi

Thanks!

Here you go!
You want menu 7 once you've unlocked. Oh, the code is the last 5 digits as well.

Not sure how much of an effect the thermostats has on petrol's though, most of the talk around here seems to be about the diesel engined e60's.
I think the petrol ones might not have an egr thermostat for example.

sanjsanj-
Thank you!!! That looks like quite the process, but I think I understand. The reason I want to see the coolant temp is because my 525 doesn't seem to be putting out enough heat. The car is under CPO warranty, but the dealer keeps telling me the thermostat is fine, but the car is slow, slow, slow to make any heat.

Thanks again...

I Got my water thermostat changed for about 2-3weeks ago.
When going my normal long trip 2* 300 km i was on 13.1/ 13.5 km/l last, but today i ended on 14,9 km/l
In my 535d from 2006. I guess that pretty ok
