Cool, i'm dropping off my car at the dealership this coming thursday, I'll ask to get the new software update too. V.28.0 , let you guys know if there are any changes.
The latest software version is 3.33 not 28. And you have to give then a reason to upgrade your software. It takes about 7 hours to re-program the car so they won't do it just to do it.

Does updating to the latest software (3.33) to the car include updating the software version for the idrive as well?

I just bought a 07 550i 3 days ago!

Should have kept v28....
I've put plenty of info up about that in the past, no need for a re hash.

If you mean the HD based system , no.
You had to get a 2010 w/ Navi to get the new system , no software update will change that.

There have been some minor fixes in the software updates, so it would really depend on which version you have. There was a fairly significant revision to the iDrive software around v27. With your car being an 07, it could have it, it could not. The Back ground on the main screen is a different color.

One can't tell if the software has been updated with out taking it to the dealer on a E60

Thanks for clarifying that. My i-drive's background on the main screen is a brown/bronze color. Is that an older version?

I still have warranty on my car. Now I just need to find an excuse to get the BMW dealership to update the software! Any ideas?

Use search to find known prior software problems that your car actually has or may have that are hard to reproduce. Transmisssion slam is usually good, eyebrow lights not working, audio mute does not hold after restart, etc.
