Regarding how to launch the vehicle:
Ultimately, what you want to do is 'pop the clutch'. That is, as quickly as you can take your foot off AND avoid getting the tires to screech too much. If you're holding the engine RPM's too high, too much time is lost from the tires spinning in place. Too low RPM's will bog down the engine and you won't have enough torque to get you moving quickly.
Several factors will determine where you should have the RPM's at launch: weight of your car (which includes yourself and other cargo), wheels and tires (dimensions and compounds), surface you're launching on, etc.
This is something that you'll have to play around with to discover at what point your tires grip or slip.

In EU 95% (probably higher) of drivers drive manual cars and it's certainly not a "higher order skill"!!

NO one here is bragging or making a fuss. The OP has a genuine interest in learning how to drive a manual transmission. Who the fuck cares how many people drive a stick shift. Does that help the OP in his inquiry?

My point is that if 80-year old women in their hordes can drive a manual car, then the OP can't really have a mountain to climb and should be encouraged by the fact that it ain't rocket science.
