My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Fun Plate. The plate in my Avatar is my old motorcycle plate, but I thought it might work here. 
1971: Guy riding in my new 2002 says "Nice car; how do you pronouce it?" I say BMW, he says, "Yeah, I know; but how do you PRONOUNCE it. Is it bum-WA or BIM-wa?" I barely maintained driving control trying not to laugh in his face.
Anyway, that was retired when I got the reverse of my auto plates for the bike (H-8 and 8-H), but when I served as Deputy Commissioner of DMV, I heard and saw lots of stories about our "Red Book" not permitted plates. The most pathetic was this bohunk who had an old State Police car and ordered and got POLIGE. That lasted around Albany until the Commissioner spotted him one day outside the train station. The plate was history by the end of the week.
My personal scofflaw favorite, that to my knowledge is STILL out there was a NY plate I spotted on Nantucket back in the mid-80s: MOFO.
