New key process
We have a 2010 528i e60.
It would be wise to get another key for the vehicle. The key does not have a replaceable battery. Its the key that recharges.
Is there an inexpensive place to obtain a spare key?
How intense is the programming process?

This is where I got mine from. The process is not intense you do need the software and the know how which is not done at any local key place.
