A little different, but I bought my current without even test driving an e60. Straight from the e39 to the e60 in my driveway.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I did buy the car sight unseen, which is absolutely nuts and something I never thought I would do. But I was looking for a rare combination (there were only 2 non-black CPO 545s with manual transmissions on the BMW site during my search, both of which I drove. I found the mechanicals fine but they both had exterior finish issues). I just couldn't get out to Texas to drive this car, so I had to put some trust in the inspection company, records, and the seller. Looks like it worked out so far, but I don't recommend my behavior to anyone.
The lift is a Bend Pak mid-rise scissor lift, and it makes doing brake jobs, clutches, and major tuneups a lot easier. I've always done all the work on my old 911s, but I doubt I will try to do much on the 550. It's a whole different animal. It makes me feel like a caveman living in the space age.
Here's the lift - add one to your Christmas list....
