Default New to E6X, but not BMW. Want to pick your brain!

I am a lifelong BMW owner, A year ago I sold my ZHP and bought a Porsche Cayenne TT. I am 90% sure I want to sell it and get back to a proper German DD.

I am thoroughly interested in the touring, but I am also set on getting back to a proper 6 speed transmission. I believe you guys call it a "Unicorn" In short, I want a wagon 535i with 3 pedals. This is not a WTB thread so I will leave it at that.

My real questions come in with E6X options and LCI changes. I didnt see a sticky with what options were offered with what year and what changes were made from year to year, besides the Facelift LCI. Can anyone give me a rundown? Example: In 2009 they changed nav units and updated software, or mid 2010 they offered bi-xenonx for the first time........ stuff like that.

Was there anything different with the E61 as far as the LCI and options were concerned? Example: They all came with cold weather package, but none came with sport package..... Im just making this stuff up, but its the type of info I want.

And of course, common problems..... I am aware of all the N54 stuff, but any 5 series specific problems with electronics, or touring problems? So far it looks like the tourings have rear hatch problem. Of course I am aware of all the cooling system issues with every BMW ever

Any and all advice is appreciated!!

I used that originally to order my 2006 530xi from the dealer. Went in with all the ordering codes and told him this is exactly what I wanted. He started to search available inventory and then he came across the manual transmission on my list and said....oh, we're going to have to oder this because we won't find a manual in stock anywhere

Thanks for the info so far..... next question.

Appears that most/all 535 tourings are all wheel drive. Besides the added weight, are there any big issues with the AWD system? I live in Florida, so no snow here, haha. I dont mind the AWD (my Porsche has power to all 4) but I dont want to buy a system known for issues. Im guessing that it is not a bad system since a search did not turn up too much.

Is the drivetrain bulky enough to handle a mild tune JB4/Cobb?

The AWD system has not been a big problem from what I've seen. My car is fine and never had an AWD problem. Wife's X5 same. AWD is also beneficial in rain.

Florida....a unicorn indeed, however they do exist. I considered trading my 6-speed 545i in for a 6-speed 535 wagon at one point, though didn't pull the trigger. Best of luck in your hunt!

One of the issues with AWD BMW E60s is that they are a more complicated car to work on.

Example: front wheel bearings (remove drive shaft), oil pan gasket (drop the front diff)
