Do you not need a navigation disk anymore? From what I can recall from previous posts, the navigation is stored in 8GB on the CIC. Do you also have a USB port in your glove box?

Looks like the navigation is using the new Navteq mapping. I'm jealous
Exactly: you do not have a nav DVD anymore (this explains why you only see one CD/DVD slot): everything is stored on a hard drive; updates can be provided apparently via a DVD that you insert in the CD/DVD slot
Music can be downloaded through USB interface and stored on the hard drive (optional) but ymusic can also be directly downloaded -and converted to MP3 format - from the CD to the hard disk (it is actually 12GB large)
Other amazing feature (I will provide pictures ):
- you are supposed to view DVD videos directly on the idrive screen (doesn't work when you are driving though..... )

Does the navigation speak the street name or does is just say "turn left at the next street"? Also, when you reach a navigation point does it have an audible marker like a ding (found on most hand held navigation systems using navteq)?

You're able to watch DVDs?????? Now I'm really jealous!!!

From my small less than 20 miles ride today, the little navigation voice does not mention the street name - I have a Euro car with french language: could be different in the US though ?
The voice only warns that you have to prepare to turn; and there is no ding !
The only thing changed is that the voice is definitely softer than that of my previous 2006 E60

You bet I will try the DVD feature first thing tomorrow !!!!! Will keep you posted !!

I got to play with this at the LA Auto Show in a brand new 7 series, and it is AMAZINGLY improved!!
Yes - finally!! And it's now caught up with the Audi MMI...

I've never been a fan of the screen resolution on the Media pack but this seems to fix everything in one hit...

Retro fit anyone????

My :Lexus had the DVD stuff, but I only used it about 3 times in 2.5 years. Even though the car had the Mark Levinson 5.1 Surround sound (which I have to say was awesome) you just don't watch DVD's in the car - there's something very (as we call it in UK) CHAV about it...

As someone who has spent many weeks driving various Audis, I can attest that no catchup was necessary. iDrive, at least from Generation 3, was head and shoulders above the MMI.

I am driving an A4 now for a few days and the MMI is maddening. A new MMI is due out with the Q5 and I should have that in March for a week. Hopefully, it will not be quite so maddening.
