I've never owned a BMW but I have always admired them. I've discovered a used 530i sport, manual . Mileage is above average, 90+. Any real issues out of the ordinary that I should consider checking out. Asking price 14K... Happy New Year!

Check the clutch operation for chatter or slip. Shift normally at city speeds, then shift at higher RPMs. Repeat on the highway. Try shifting 6 to 4 or 5 to 3 to pass, speed and RPMs permitting. Clutch engagement should be smooth. If engagement is late in the clutch pedal travel, clutch is probably worn. If clutch slips after engagement while at high RPMs, clutch is definitely worn. If Active Suspension, check suspension height at each corner, should be the same on the other side.

Welcome to the 5 Series Forums, although I'm quite new as well! LOL~

I think as a starter, you should check out the steering column! If it's the E60 5 Series 2004 model, it's the first generation, and I remember BMW doing recalls for steering column replacements! And also, you might want to get your door seals changed to the 2G ones because the first generation door seals started the door creaks etc! Go and check out the "Squeaking Doors" topic!

Hope the above helps a bit!

As a minimum you should obtain service and warranty records and ensure any recall or required updates have been completed. If you are unable to determine when the last service was actually completed as a minimum I'd do a oil and filter change, inspect brake pad / brake disc thickness, coolant condition, radiator - hoses (small leaks turn out to be moderately expensive parts replacement) - micro-filter check.

If you don't have an owner's manual there is a pdf you can download at the information section of this forum.

BTW - where are you located? Update / complete your profile! Some features for your car are country-specific!

to the forum. Mileage does not mean anything, if the car was well taken care of. You shouldn try to obtain all past service records and have the car checked by an independent shop. G/L

There have been several recalls for the earlier e60 models (e.g., passenger side air bag sensor, I-drive software update etc.) so ensure these have been done by the prior owner. Also with nearly 100K you will likely need to replace the suspension and control arms in the next 20K miles and this will cost a few grand, so take this in to account when deciding the economics of your purchase. Good luck.
