Well after searching the forums and doing a little research I just replaced my battery with this one

http://www.batteriesplus.com/products/61-S...CCA/545I/1.aspx

Also After looking at autozone the battery they recommended was not the same specs. They gave me a battery with a 650cc when the OEM was 850cc

I installed the battery and had the Active steering error. I turned the steering wheel both ways and the error was cleared when I restarted the car.

Overall the process was easy and I personally could not pay someone to $400 to change the battery.

Good choice - never install a replacement battery with a lower CCA than original equipment; BMWs are very hungry for volts even when parked!

The car needs to be programmed to know that your battery was replaced otherwise you could get battery warnings even when the new one is still good. BMW efficient dynamics has some algorithms or something that keep tabs on your battery life and need to be reset after battery change.

Not so. The only time you need reprogramming is if you change the battery type to another type that requires a different charging rate. Search the site to get details.
