Just need some opinion on this scratch rim.

Picked up the car on 3/31 from dealer. When I was looking over the car in the garage that night, I saw a 3" scratch on the rear rim. Called CA next day, no problem, the wheel guy is at the dealership on Thurs/Friday.

Drove to the dealer yesterday and the wheel guy told my CA it will take about 2 hours to repaint and dry. I had to make a new appointment for next Thursday at 9:00 am. But, here is my problem/questions.

1) Does the wheel guy have to repaint the entire rim?
2) The wheel guy was working at the back parking lot of the dealership. He was working on a 3 series which he jacked up using a floor jack. That was a huge floor jack and he jacked up the 3 series by the control arm. I read somewhere in the forum that you're not suppose to use the control arm to jack up any car. Is this correct?

I have only 300 miles on this car and I don't want him to jack up my car using the floor jack. From the look of the floor jack, I don't think it can go under my car because my car sits very low. Can he repaint my car without taking out my wheel?

Any advice or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

1-he cannot repaint the wheel without taking it out
2- When i had my rims done, He had to take out the tires as well, so that the paint doesnt ship later on.
3-yes, he has to re-paint the entire wheel, but it will look brand new, you wont even notice he did it if he does a great job.

if he jacks the rear, putting the jack on the control arm is ok. its pretty beefy.
as for the front, you should use the rubber lifting pad underneath the engine.

in both cases, you could jack up the car by its factory lifting points also.

usually the wheel repair guy will spray a larger section of the rim to blend in the paint. not always the whole rim.
one thing that i dont like that wheel repair guys do.......they spray the face perfect, but overspray gets on the inside barrel of the rim, which makes cleaning brake dust on the inside of the rim more difficult. request them to tape off the inner barrel.

Why dont they just use the factory jack points? Weird... arnt they easier to reach than the control arms?

maybe cause the factory lifting points have plastic adapters, and you cant really use the cup on a floor jack to pick it up, unless you cut some heavy rubber pads to fit in the cup, or remove it all together, but then you still should put some kind of rubber mat in between so that it doesnt slip.

there's less chance of doing damage by lifting the control arm in the rear, and the rubber pad in front.
