Hey, the car is yours. Who cares about the break-in period. Do whatever you want with the car.

I rather see a 550 driving like crazy than driving around 60mph and block every car on the freeway.

I know! I saw this asian lady on the freeway yesterday... Prob late 30s to 40s in a CLS 55 AMG cruising at 60mph!!!!! OMG OMG what a waste of a car. Another case of those... I like that Mercedes style give me the BEST one that on the lot and paied cash out the door in $100 bills...

Drive it like you stole it!

There's been lots of debate on break-in period driving style.

To bad there's no hard evidence to prove that aggressive driving during the break-in period creates a better seal with the piston rings, but those are the claims.

Congrats on the new car (which is really just a new engine ).

My friend did that with his new MINI 2 years ago. Drove it HARD the first 20 miles... VERY... redline in all gears. And a couple months ago he dynoed his car... He's making 163 WHP... Wheel Horse power... the MINI is rated at 163 hp Crank HP. So thats pretty impressive... And we can feel that his MINI is stonger than mine... either he broke it in really well or he just got lucky and got a stronger MINI from the factory.

Nice pice of info. Keep an eye if smth goes wrong with his car that may occur to the treatment.
Very interesting. Although it's very tempting to do with a petrol car, especially a high revving one because 1 you satisfy your hunger immediatley (not having to wait for 1300miles) and 2 because you might get a gain in hp and better sealed piston rings but i dunno there is smth in me that makes me wana take it more progresively (not necesarely stick to the brake in) but be more gentle to a brand new car and stuff...you know!

He has 32K miles on his car now and I have 32K he's had less problems than I have to date. I've had a engine seal leak at 5K miles hes had none so far. You figure that one out.

I can hear the deamons stirr up inside me. Anyway i don't think one should have enough reasons not to do that, come to think of it. If smth goes wrong with it, it's simply covered under warranty and on the long term well that not going to happen only after 150k+ miles.

Now you guys got me thinking how should i break my car in? .. Follow the rules or be a rebel.. Has there been any studies on the break-in subject?
