Znod,

I don't know if it's been mentioned in your g-meter threads, but perhaps you should consider investing in a AX22. I'd think you'd have a lot of fun with it.

Not sure if this is still ongoing, but they were trying to get an AX22 group buy here http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=45678
The AX22 looks very good. Thanks for pointing it out to me. I'll keep it in mind if I get even more serious about performance measurements/data logging.

OK Z, here's a stats Q for you: Your records are for "stock" 545s (mine is 04). But what about firmware updates? You, of all people, (who has said he'd like to regress) has found that updates can spell r-e-t-a-r-d-e-d speed....

now what??

Show up at I-90 exit 2 (NY) about 8:30 am any work morning? I'm in the black 545i 6 spd...lol (please bring your pickup...)

Cheers,
Ray
Hmmmm, well, I am not quite sure what you are getting at on the performance update issue. Regardless, I am not sharing any pickup I get with you. Your going to have to do your own picking up.

I think that my car is pretty much as fast as it was before my update to 20.01.00--except that I am not completely able to turn both DTC and DSC off completely--thus, my car is a bit slower off the line than it used to be.

Below are some of my stats for my best 5 passes. I placed the RT 7/06 6-Speed 550i test results next to mine. I suspect that my car can hold its own.

Adjusted for Weather and Altitude to 500'--Best Five Overall Tests:

____________________________________Znod__________ ___________________.......RT/550i (6 Speed)
..............................#1................#2 .............#3.............#4............#5...... ..Average
1/4 Speed...........104.520......105.540.....104.646.. ...105.098....106.396....105.240..............105. 000 (rounded?)
1/4 Time...............13.495........13.502......13.48 0.......13.495......13.386.......13.472........... ...13.500(rounded?)
1/8 Speed**.........82.851........83.090......82.937.. .....83.128......83.749.......83.151
0 to 100...............12.150........12.085......12.144 .......12.118......11.824.......12.064............ ..12.100 (rounded?)
0 to 60...................5.000..........5.004........4 .982........5.004........4.869.........4.972...... .........5.000 (rounded?)

My weather adjustments make very little difference. And, I doubt that RT's test would have been conducted at an elevation significantly higher than 500'.

So, "now what" what? I don't get it.

Sorry for you, Ray, but great good-natured humor, Z.

OTOH, when I tried to use my g-meter, the basic input settings and assumptions the software required could radically change the timing. I'm sure there is a lot I can learn about g-meters, but I abandoned mine early on because I could influence the read out with my input. But, then again, I am a neophyte with a g-meter.

Hi JDN:

I am very confident of the appropriateness of my Pro RR settings, but, of course, the meter still could be giving biased results. My most persuavive evidence that it is functioning accurately is that (a) my unadjusted results seem very reasonable given magazine results and (b) my adjusted results and those of grogan545i are very much the same. In this regard, grogan 545i calibrated his meter at a drag strip. But, then, again, his has not been recalibrated lately. Also, note that the Pro RR's were the out-of-the-box most accurate of the g-meters tested in the recent performance meter test. I think I am afraid to go to a drag strip. I don't want to burst my bubble.

I can understand that one can tire of g-metering pretty quickly--especially if the idea is to know the "truth" of auto performance. But, at least g-meters are very useful for improving one's technique, determining whether one's car is performing better, or worse, over time, assessing the effects of mods, and identifying optimal shift points. Additonally, I have much fun using the recorded data to do different kinds of analyses.

Mine is a cheap model, Z, which probably accounts for my poor experience. Your reasoning sounds logical.
