My Ride: MY08 525i, platinum grey, black dakota leather, black trim, sunroof, HUD, bluetooth, TV, phone, 70% tint
Default

It's been a month since I picked up this new MY08 525i LCI. Was a end-of-year clearance, so didn't have a choice of colour or trim. However, quite happy with the platinum grey, black Dakota leather and black trim. They gave me a BMW FS discount and a corporate discount. Bought it on the Full Circle Program, so car goes back to the delaer in 4-years time with a guaranteed residual. Because of the Christmas/New Year holiday closure, car was only registered in Jan 08, which was fine with me. Dealer wanted $2,850 for the 'protection pack' which included tinting, paint protection, leather seal etc. I had a little chuckle and politely declined. Went to the Tint Professor and got non-metallic 70% tint for $265. Make sure you don't get metallic tint as it interferes with the radio. Got paint protection done elsewhere for $395.

Great looking car, how is the engine? Is the car too heavy for such a small engine? Is the acceleration acceptable? What is the rated HP? 160?

Yes, performance isn't exactly earth shattering. Just adequate is how you would describe it. Engine is rated as 160kW, just enough to keep up with traffic! But love the handling and general feeling of quality. I thought the ride would be hardsher with run-flats, but the sales lady said tyre technology has improved since the model was first released. Ride is fine. In Australia they also offer the 523i, which has 140kW. Now that would be sluggish!

My previous car was a Subaru Forester XT Turbo. The 525i acceleration is certainly a let down in comparison, but its fine for city driving.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you didn't just get a good deal because of the end of year clearance.
I think you may have been sold a second quality model with a manufacturing defect.
If you just look at the pics you posted, especially the second, you will clearly see the that the steering wheel was in fact installed on the passanger side of the car.
However, if you don't mind that, the car is a beauty, enjoy!
