So the new 525i will be 218 instead of the current 184HP? Sweet!?

I think here in the U.S. the hp rating will be 210 for the 525i & 255 for the 530i, as opposed to 218 & 258 in Europe.R.R.

I'm still opting for RWD. Don't want to chance it with AWD for the sport lux, and it takes away the sport because I want the Sports Package, which you can't have with the X.

Oh bugger! With my new 520 Sport due in January I did not want to hear that engine will be replaced by 523 in March.

Now thats the funniest thing I've heard on this board since its inception! Actually, I am pretty sure that in the U.S., the 2006 models for both the E60 & the E90 will be starting up with March production. This was per a memo on Centernet, which is a BMW web-site.

a hard lesson i learned the last time i ordered my car in 2000
....you must research for AT LEAST a year prior to making a purchase like this to know what is coming out on the horizon....
this info has been known since early summer

As you said, it is neccessary to research well in advance and look at past patterns.
I too bought the 323i in 1999 and a year later upgraded to 325i (I was caught off gaurd with the new engine release
) Then a year later BMW brought out a facelift to the 3 series
so I decided to change to E39 5 Series. This time I was very careful before ordering my E60, and was fortunate enough to have had the confirmed info on the new R6 engine from BMW SA already on 5 November 2004. So this time hopefully by buying R6 with MSports kit means that even when the E60 facelift comes out my car will not be seriously outdated. Any small facelift changes like the grille or lights can hopefully be made at a small cost.
BTW, any thoughts on the E60 facelift including any body panels like the bonnet (hood)? The current 3 Series facelift included a hood change as well as head and tail lights, grille etc.
The E39 facelift was mainly the head and tail lights, grill and bumpers.
I don't think I've seen a facelift to sports package parts?
