Valvetronic replaces the function of the throttle butterfly with continuously variable valve lift control, to enable the engine to breathe more easily. An electric motor controlled by the accelerator pedal turns an eccentric shaft, which transmits the rotation of the cams to the valves via a connecting lever. Controlling the position of the eccentric shaft controls the ideal valve lift. The result is remarkably smooth and optimized power and efficiency at all times.

Valvetronic is already in the 545I - i'm not sure if they'll make a new engine with the aluminum and magnesium technology since it is only for 6 cyliners at this point.

I think there is a new 4.8 liter V8 on the way, no?
At least that's what Automobile Magazine just stated in their January issue.....

Oh bugger! With my new 520 Sport due in January I did not want to hear that engine will be replaced by 523 in March.

no, the new M3 is going to have a 4.0 high revving heart...it will be new, but just for the ///M... approx 400bhp...

the new 4.8 is also supposed to produce power near 400bhp...first for the 750i, then 650i, and then the 5er

Good find!!!!!!

Looks like the new 5(R6) didnt get the comfort access(keyless go) feature as the new 3 did....well, i guess i can live with that...

if it did have the comfort access feature the new 5 would have been perfect and we cant have that..

is it just me or did the way they spoke about the new engine sound like the best thing since sliced bread???

according to the article, xDrive doesnt affect the performance too much( ) or increase the weight tremendously..

whose opting for Xdrive on the new 5?
i will probably stick with the RWD..

looking forward once again to owning my first BMW....
