We all heard about the new 630i and its engine, I was told that the 3.0 engine that will come on the 630i will have more horse power than the older 3.0 engines. Also the new 530i will have the new engine as well.
I was told that it is only a different chip that gives that boost in power.
not sure but the existing 530 has 231hp and the new one should be something around 258.
Does anyone know if we can purchase that chip, can people like me upgrade?

You could still chip your engine but I don't think you'd see the same gains... (I reckon about +15hp tops)

Sure you can chip the M54 engine to get to 258 hp, I think the new engine has better low end torque. Right Mervderv?

I have the new N52 3.0i engine in my car and as has been said it is a totally new engine....apart from the fact its a 3.0i litre i think that is where the similarities end. I previously had a 2003 E60 with the old 3.0i and they are totally different in terms of performance and responsiveness. I today just finished running mine in and for the first time since I got the car 3 weeks ago went into DS mode and pushed the engine past 4500 rpm and used kickdown all i can say is

oh and the new engine is also returning a combined mpg of 31.7 at the moment which i am very impressed with.

All 530i since March production have the same 190KW engine as the 630i
Its a totally new engine , not a upgraded old one
