Can someone out there help me please.

I have just ordered a new 2007 model year 535d.

I have just heard that BMW is going to revamp its engine range in 2007. The last thing I want is to take delivery, and then a week later discover that the 535d is now the 538d, or that the power output has changed.

Does anyone know anything?

Many thanks.

What I've seen so far in the German press is that the 520d will go up 175bhp, the 525d will get a "limited" version of the current 3 litre 530d engine (can't remember the bhp - around 195-200??), but have not seen anything written about planned changes to the 530d or 535d engines.

The 530d and 535d seem to be well positioned in the market, whereas the 520d and 525d need a little more umpf if they're going to stay ahead of the competition - you know, the old "mine's bigger than yours" games with Audi & MB!

Yup, the 535d will receive a boost from 272ps to 286ps and a lighter block (About 20kg less). I would wait, the updated engine (as already seen in 231ps 530d) will be a worthy improvement...

The 530d may receive a boost to 245ps and (longer term!) the 535d may receive 300ps from the factory once the competition catches up... The 520d may even receive 175ps and the 525d is being boosted from 177ps to 200ps via a 3.0l litre engine. (The 525d, 530d and 535d will all be the same 3.0l block)

These engines will feature in the E90/1/2 (3-series) from September 2006 and apparently March 2007 for the E60...

Is the 520d being uprated as suggested above?

Rumoured to make 175ps soon, may coincide with other tweaks/updates... (525d to 200ps, 535d to 286ps, maybe even 530d to 245ps)

Don't worry! The 535d 272bhp version is a shockingly rapid car. The astonishing midrange performance would leave many high performance cars behind. I've had mine DMS'd, out of pure greed, to 334bhp so an increased overall performance of erm 20%ish. Its faster but not that faster as the car was fantastic to start with! Bmw's increase from 272bhp to 286bhp will IMHO be hardly noticeable.

The 535d is probably the best car in the real world. Full thrash everywhere and the average mpg of mine is still 27.7mpg from new.

Enjoy when you get it.

Whilst in pure hp terms the increase is barely noticable I think the characteristics of the engine will be a welcome improvement. The new injection system will make low-rpm pull even better! And the 25kg weight-save will help handling too...

The new engine produces 550Nm @ only 1,500rpm and 580Nm at 1,750rpm!!! (The current engine produces 560Nm at a 'heady' 2,000rpm)

But hey, both are GREAT! Improvements are always expected whenever you buy...
