Ok so ive done alot of searching.

i searched how to check idrive frimware.. and update the software to current..
I seem to have the older version from what i see from youtube.
I did the following:

This process can get you into a special menu which contains additional ECU information:

0. Insert Key FOB into slot (do not start the car, just wait for the iDrive system come on)
1. Push down i-Drive knob for approx 8 sec
2. Turn right 3 clicks
3. Turn left 3 clicks
4. Turn right 1 click
5. Turn left 1 click
6. Turn right 1 click
7. Push down i-Drive knob

*** Be paitent after step 7, it took my car a good five seconds to pull up the data.

...and then WHAT?????? there are post on version in german ..but i dont have that i have attched (pic 1)

ive also order a 2015 nav cd from: https://bmwnavigation.co.uk/bmw-us/

Now my next issue is the stereo it say's i have the following:

S609a Pro Nav
CCC allocation
S645A BMW US Radio
S676A HiFi speaker system
Via the attched PDF But.....
i dont have DSP? or any eq settings?

any help would get much gratitude..

#1 Im trying to get all idrive software in the car to current software.

# 2Find out what im supposed to have for the "audio control" options that are show with the system specs. I only seem to have bass and treble control and none of my iPhones/iPods work usb?

#3 Do I need a special cable?

#4 Do all 5 series have a USB in the glovebox?

 

1. you wont see any changes with the updates
2. sounds like you dont have the logic7 system, just the base stereo.
3. 4. later cars had optional usb and aux input. earlier cars can be coded for an aux input. and mp3 cd capability.

what about the usb in the glove box i dont have one?
and the usb in the center console i can put music on a usb stick and that works?

 

Anything you do the these cars require programming. Nothing is plug and play unless you are changing out the mats. Come to think about it you need to program that too! LOL

I am not sure what you are asking for. You program/Diag the car with INPA, EDIABAS , NCS Expert Tool

 

Do i need All 3 of these programs or is one beter than the other?

I was looking for the best diy coding software that maybe had a wizard style ui... or some thing simple

My Son(16yrs) and I are doing this car mod project for a project for his college applications..
sorry if im not commincating well idk what im doing...YET..

 

INPA and NCS Expert is what you will need. KK USB I have never heard of. K+D CAN USB is what you will need. It will have INPA compatible on it.


I understand what you are asking for. You will not find a wizard program for these cars at least for what you are trying to do. Everything is about figuring out what works. Their are a lot of how tos on this site and others but you have to know what you are looking for.
