Hi,
please I need some advise. Bought a 2005 530i, previous owner didn't do any service at the end (or ever). I got all the fluids changed and did my own oil change last night with new spark plugs. The filter actually fell apart, had to fish out little filter pieces. I don't know how old the oil and filter were. When I open up the oil cap it looks little gunky in there, never seen a car at 100k that bad. Car has 106k miles. What should I do? Do a slow Lucas treatment over time, and maybe an oil flush? I was thinking on changing the oil for the next few times at 5k and clean up the engine that way a little. Any ideas? I have never done SeaFoam treatments, there are many mixed opinions about SeaFoam.
Thank you.

u r on the right track.....dump and refil at 5K intervals or even less...it will clean the internals pretty nicely... they do make an engine flush fluid whihc you pour into the engine after you have drained the oil and then just run the engine for a couple of minutes and then drain. I have used it in my toyota sienna van, but would be a bit skeptical using it on a BMW.....here is a link to a similar product that I am referrring to..

here is another..

some one with more fluid knoweledge should chim in on using these on a BMW engine...

What about running some cheap oil through, for 30minutes, and then back to my Lubro Moly 5W30? I would do this on my next oil change at 5k. What cheap oil do I get? Cheap full synth?

change oil. add BG MOA. drive 1000 miles. change oil again. add BG MOA. drive 1000 miles. change oil again.
use BMW LL-01 oil if you can.
that's what I'd do.
good luck with the car. I have an '04 530i, same engine. when you run into oil leaks (it's not if, it's when) there are a lot of good DIY threads on the internet for the M54 engine.

cycle cheap, but still reputable brand, oil through it once a month for a few months until it gets better.
I'd avoid any 'engine cleaner' product, especially lucas, except for a little bit of Marvel Mystery Oil mixed in with your regular oil.
MMO recommends a full quart of it in lieu of 1 qt of oil but I wouldn't go that aggressive, I only put 1/4 qt in.
