My 2005 545i now has just under 110,000 miles on it, and I am pained to say that I may be selling it soon.
I have spent $8000 on repairs in the last 6 months, and there are still problems which I have not yet fixed. I am very worried that if I keep it any longer, something else will break and need to be fixed.
I should have sold it or traded in before 100,000 miles.
It's a great car, and mechanically it is in great shape. But the electronics are failing, and they are expensive to fix.

Mine is at 109k and I've spent around 8k just for OEM parts, no labor cost as I do most repairs myself. As for electronics I've changed battary and iBS cable only . I regret I did not replaced alternator when I had it out for bracket seal replacement. I am going to keep it another 2-3 years. as this been discusses here many times you have to exept 2-3k just for parts, 2x or 3x that if giong to the shop a year to keep this car running and in good shape. As I see rkeeping charging system in shape will eliminate most of electrical problems. OP still has to fix it to sell anyway. But you always loose money in either way. In my opinion driving low mileage and high Mileage cars both gonna cost money exept you'll spend less time in garage fixing and replacing parts and it is more reliable than low Milage cars but I think if you want to know more about cars and have free time than keep the old car that's how I am learning and educating myself as I enjoy driving.
