No I dont think so. You migh need a software update but thats about it.
What month is it built? Cuz early 04s dont have Blue tooth capability or might not have MP3 capability even with a software upgrade... but those arent really problems... just lack of features. I have a early 05 545 SMG and no real problems... if its a late MY04 SMG I think it should be pretty safe. There are a few 04 545 SMGs here and they've had zero problems. Others that did are ones that needed new Hydraluic pumps for the transmission but thats not 2004 related... its the luck of the draw... |
I have a March '04 build 545 SMG that I would take to the bank.

My car and JDN's car were built pretty much next to each other. No problems here.
You should check the build date (on the sticker located on the driver's door jamb) just so you know if you'll be able to use bluetooth or not. If the build is 3/2004 or later, you should be good -- if it's before that date, you'll either have to do without bluetooth or pay around $2K to have a new TCU installed... Good luck -- SMG is a blast!! |

Take to the bank? I know it means good but I dont get it... What so you can rob it and have a dependable car to escape off in? :P |
That must be what he meant...maybe it was JDN driving that E30 M3 in the police chase video? :P

For the whipper snappers in this thread, may I offer an explanation for "take it to the bank." That expression has been used by those needing a possession that would secure a loan at a bank. Hence, if the possession was worthy as a security, it was something of value to a banker to secure bank credit. Hence, "I would take it to the bank" is descriptive of a possession that would be looked upon favorably by a banker. Got it now? ;)
