I was just checking the Navteq website for an update to my wife's Expedition, and thought "What the Heck", and searched on my 2004 530 BMW. Here's what the site returned:

New updates are now available for your BMW DVD navigation system. Release 2005.2 is currently available, but can not be ordered from this site at this time. To order your new DVD update please call 1-888-NAV-MAPS (1-888-628-6277) or contact your local BMW dealer.

To find your closest dealer go to bmwusa.com

BMW DVD Update
Phone: 1-888-628-6277
Web Address: http://www.bmwusa.com"

Has anyone updated to this DVD yet? Maybe it's shipping with the new 2006 cars....

My biggest Peev with the NAV DVD is the outdated information. It does not list restaurants that have been there for 4 years. It also seems to be 200 ft off in mapping addresses. This appears to be a DVD issue and not a car issue as it accuartely countdowns in Arrow display for intersections and turns.

I called NAV Tek about this. They said they had no control over the information data as it is provided to them by Dun and Bradsteet.

It is a expensive DVD so I am not sure if I should get it.

I think the position of the roads is on a different (more verified) layer of data. The address numbers are not as accurate because they are still adding/verifying that information. If you compare the error to the E39 nav database, it's improved in many cases -- the E39 had address ranges based on blocks, not actual position (to help you find the block your address is in, not the actual driveway.)

There are some roads in rural areas that aren't even verified yet. It's frustrating when you are in one of these areas because the map shows the streets you're on and everything looks fine but the system will say something like "unable to provide guidance information" and you pretty much have to "wing it" to find where you're going...

Back to the regularly scheduled thread...

I just called my local service center, and they quoted $225 and the part number is 6590-0-398542. It is apparently for the e65, but they said that it would work. I'd love to confirm this before shelling out the $225...

My dealer just quoted me $300. I wonder if we can get an ISO posted somewhere? I know it will be big but an all night download beats paying these prices.

Wasn't one DVD update supposed to be included free or was that just a rumour? I remember hearing that a lot back in the day.
