I just recently got a 2005 545i and i wanted to install the navigation that would normally come with the vehicle. Can that even be done? Dont want a garmin or some other aftermarket navigation when I already have a display on board.

The display you have is not the same as the one that comes with the Nav option. I have only seen a couple reports of people that have successfully done the Nav retrofit and it is not easy or cheap. You need to replace the display, the computer (MASK for CCC) and several other componets. The car also needs to be reprogrammed by the dealer. If you use the search function you should be able to find more info.

yes, you CAN install a Navi. However, it is a job and a half, from the little that I've read so far. I'm planning to do this some time in the foreseeable future myself, but what you should do is go into the "Parts, Accessories and Mods" section and do a search - there are pdf's and DIY instructions and links there that will help you with most of it. Some of the issues I haven't yet reconciled myself though - such as compatibility of older systems to newer cars and so on. But I'm extremely interested in the subject - if I know more, I'll post into this thread too
