Is there any way to just have the map come up on the main idrive screen without a destination selected.

If so, what is the sequence of steps to achieve this? I mean if i just want the map on the screen as i drive the car without it telling me where to go, why does it seem impossible to do this?

And is it possible to get the map to cover the entire screen?

Switch sideways to the control icons and cancel the icon which has the arrow ending in dot. That cancels naigation. Switch back again.

Fill entire screen? No but you can have other info in the assistance window. Even a map!

Unless the newer software has changed everything, it IS pretty simple:

From the main menu:

choose Navigation (push iDrive right)
choose Navigation again from the top line menu
below the destination there should be two fields, the first is route criteria, the second has the map choices (N-oriented, dir-of-travel, perspective). Two pulls down to pick your map choice. Then click. There you are

It's a lot simpler to do than to explain. It should also remain as the default navigation screen view when you "go to" Navigation from another screen (push right and hold)

Equally simple is the answer to the full screen question. You can't. There's no why - you just cannot.

I wonder if you agree not quite as simple as the technique from map view.

One slide if idrive controller and one click.

Oh... and one of us isn't answering the OP's question and it looks like it could be me!!

BTW using "extended voice control " I just say "perspective" and the map appears.

Ah, yes, but then you've got to have the map (i.e. have chosen a destination) in the first place. Which is a bit of a palaver. With "my" method, no need to enter a destination at all.

We've answered the OP's question. We're now free to argue the thread away!

I'm waiting for an opportunity to get voice control activated...

So this becomes a case for enhanced voice control actually simplifying something!!

Another question...what is an "OP". Is it that kid from the Andy Griffith Show? I really don't know what an OP is.

BTW thanks for the info on the IDrive, Ill try it later.
